Job Duties: The primary purpose of your position is to assist the Health & Rehab Center Director in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the daily functions of the Health Center in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our community, and as may be directed by the Health & Rehab Center Director and/or the Medical Director to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained always.

The Director of Nursing will demonstrate a willingness to help others and will aid persons served, staff, and guests that honors the rights of the person served. The director will promote and maintain a caring, safe working environment which complies with all applicable laws and accrediting bodies.

Job Functions

Serves as Director of Nursing for the Health Center.

Assists Health & Rehab Center Director in managing overall operations of the Health Center (HC) with focus on clinical aspects for the department.

Acts as a contact for Medical Director on HC-wide clinical issues.

Reviews incidents including investigations with staff and residents. Assists with allegations, abuse and reporting.

Directly supervises nursing management staff.

Maintains an accurate census and acuity and ensures staffing is appropriate for needs.

Ensures consistency of discipline process across units.

Conducts in-services for staff.

Assists with ensuring regulatory standards are being met. Survey prep lead on Nursing areas, and assisting with Point of Corrections.

Responsible for being lead on Vision software and assisting with ongoing implementation and education.

Lead on recruitment of staff needed for the HRC.

Prior experience with hiring, coaching, counseling and terminating employees is necessary

Complete budget invoices for all nursing care related items.

Assist with culture development.

Basic Qualifications:

Must possess, as a minimum, a RN Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university

Must have, as a minimum, 10 years of nursing experience which include a Long Term Care experience, Senior Care, and possess strong clinical skills

Prior supervisory experience or equivalency considered

Demonstrate an empathetic, compassionate and expert approach with residents, visitors, and co-workers

Demonstrates computer experience and proficiency

Demonstrates excellent communication skills, problem solving skills and the ability to build positive staff relationships

Must possess knowledge of the appropriate skills for communicating with individuals of all ages, especially the geriatric population

Preferred Qualifications:

Director of Nursing experience is not required, but preferred

Porter Hills Village is located at 3600 East Fulton Street. CCAC-CARF has accredited the Porter Hills Village Campus as a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). The Village Center (residential living plus services), catered living areas, and dementia care total 216 beds licensed by the State of Michigan. The Health and Rehabilitation Center is a skilled nursing and inpatient rehabilitation center, including both private and semi-private rooms, licensed for both Medicare and Medicaid, and providing Hospice care. The Health and Rehab Center is an 89 bed and 120 employee run center providing expert care for transitional needs of individuals with round-the clock nursing care.
